What is a Dental Implant?

A dental implant mimics the form and function of a natural tooth, which consists of a root and a crown. The crown is the visible part of your tooth, while the implant is the artificial foundation that replaces the natural root. When decay has gone deep enough or when a periodontal disease has advanced enough to warrant an extraction, the entire tooth, root and all, is taken out. The dental implant is a titanium root that gets fitted into the socket that remains from an extraction. Once the root heals, we place an artificial crown on top. This new crown is customized to match the color of your teeth. We understand that every patient is unique, so just like with a regular crown, our on-site lab technicians can create a custom crown shade to meet your needs.

Dental implants are evidence of revolutionary dental technology. By mimicking the natural root, they allow people to rediscover the comfort of chewing, speaking, and laughing with natural teeth.

What is the Implant Procedure?

Dental implants are metal anchors, which substitute the natural root of the tooth. An implant is surgically placed into the jawbone, and bonds with the jawbone within 3-6 months. During this time, you can utilize a temporary denture while your jaw heals. After the bonding, you can come in for a second appointment, during which an impression will be taken to create posts for your new teeth. A crown will then be crafted in our lab, and you will soon rediscover the feeling of like-natural teeth!
